Learn, pray, and advocate for justice at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice—the largest annual Catholic social justice gathering in the United States.

The Teach-In is a place for members of the Ignatian family (Jesuit institutions and larger Catholic Church) to be empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked. Now in its 29th year, the Teach-In has a rich history rooted in honoring the Jesuits and their companions who were martyred in El Salvador in 1989.

In a world overwhelmed by noise and division, Amplify: Peace | Justice | Community calls us first to step back from the din and listen for God’s voice and the voices that too often go unheard.

First we listen. Then we speak.

A single voice can carry, but a chorus can shake a room. Like waves building on each other, our voices rise and grow until what was once just noise is now a choir of witnesses that can’t be ignored.

Saint Óscar Romero reminded us that “Each one of you has to be God’s microphone.” We are called not only to hear the cries of the earth and the marginalized but to amplify them through advocacy, solidarity, and action. We pass the mic to those who need to be heard.

We speak, then we act, and in our actions, something begins to grow. Pope Leo XIV calls us to “help shape a world that is more just.” He calls us toward a peace that is “unarmed” and at the same time “disarming.” This is not a slogan, but a way of life that “renounces all forms of violence, both personally and institutionally.” A peace that, he says, “cannot be decreed: it must be embraced and lived.”

One postcard to a legislator carries conviction, but thousands can’t be ignored. A few students standing together on a sidewalk bear witness, but hundreds gathered in prayer and solidarity shift the spirit of a community. One meeting, one march, one act of accompaniment matters, but when we act together, they gather strength and are amplified.

And together we amplify…
… the groaning of creation
… the suffering of our migrant family
… justice and peace that is due to all of God’s children
… a hope that refuses to give up
… the joy of our beloved community
… and a love that heals our world and binds us together.

Until what we speak is no longer an echo on the margins, but the amplified sound of a world made new.

Our justice-loving partners help make the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice possible.

“For 18 years, IFTJ has been central to my life and prayer. Attending when I was fifteen, it was the first time in my life that I felt like I belonged. The opportunities for friendship, learning, and hope are extraordinary and are a great sense of renewal every year. As a teacher bringing students, many of them felt heard and excited for the first time in their lives. It’s a powerful experience of justice and goodness in the world!”

“Attending IFTJ was such an empowering and fun event. I got to be a part of the fight for social justice. I remember walking to the senator’s building and feeling like I was not alone in this fight and that my voice was being heard. I became great friends with students all over the nation who are also fighting for a more just world. We are stronger together!”

“.. in the midst of some really challenging years, IFTJ is consistently a space of consolation, hope, and resolve. Whatever the secret sauce is, you have it. Thank you for creating this space and empowering and encouraging our Ignatian family.”

“I really appreciated the vulnerability of all the speakers, and was grateful to be able to share my own perspectives at the breakout sessions”

“The Teach-In was very informative and taught me so many new things. It was great talking with college and high school students from around the country and listening to their personal stories. This is something I think everyone should experience”

“The Teach-In opened my eyes to a world of injustice and how our faith influences our actions. Being with people like me inspired me to do better for our environment, immigrants, and community. I can say I’m more than ready to go out and work towards injustice.”

“This was Gonzaga Prep’s first IFTJ with students, and I cannot explain to you the positive impact that it had on them. … IFTJ opened their eyes to the love, support, and unapologetic stance for acknowledging the dignity of all and advocating for the marginalized. They are so psyched to be a part of the Ignatian Family.”

“The conference reinforced the career I wish to pursue, but most importantly provided me skills and knowledge.”

“Through all of the breakout sessions and presentations, I learned so much about contributing to social justice and how everyone can be an advocate.”
