At work me and a couple coworkers (black, white, and mexican) had a fun discussion on whether there are more ghosts at a hospital or a cemetery.

everyone individually took a moment to specify that ghosts probably aren't REAL real. then weighed in on where and why.

for the record my position was that there's probably way more ghosts in hospitals because that's where people die horribly, but since you can only see ghosts in dark, solitary conditions, graveyards at night is where the majority of ghost sightings occur. hospitals are usually well lit and busy, so even if they're crammed with ghosts the living are too damn busy to see them. meanwhile if a cemetery has even one ghost that followed her corpse there from the hospital, she'll be spotted because that's where all the ghost hunters go to look.

this theory was received as extremely sensible, and a coworker drew the conclusion that that's why abandoned hospitals are even scarier than graveyards. once the place gets abandoned then you can tell how much ghosts got built up.

we all liked this explanation a lot and explained it to everyone else all night. and of course, none of us believe in ghosts.

I don't think they're even pretending to care about free speech. They still want privileged speech.

They're trying to convict us with their (flawed) understanding of our principles which are broadly stated as, "free speech is an inherent human right not subject to restraint by the government except in the most extreme cases such as in direct calls for violence."

And I think they've kindof got a point. If the government is saying it can withhold priviledges and services you otherwise qualify for, have legally applied for, and recieved, on the basis of you using your right to free speech wrong, that is something conservatives should examine carefully and consider thoughtfully of 'does this fit within my principles?'

If I accept Proud Boys or Freedom Front as a terror group or extremist group, then do I think it is ok for the gov't to rescind the visa of a South African lawyer in Chicago who, with his public speech, supports students in that same city protesting in support of those groups?

It is still a miracle that the protests went for three consecutive days without Hamas arresting and torturing thousands, as it did in 2019 and summer 2023.

And that they have been able to protest repeatedly throughout the war - despite Hamas killing at least one other organizer last year, and beating another to a pulp.

That the movement has been able to build to the point of having thousands of people protesting all over Palestine - not just Gaza, though mostly Gaza of course - to the point that the news FINALLY COVERED THEM. That is a fucking miracle.

They evidently even turned Odai Naser Saadi's funeral procession into a protest. That seems like the perfect tribute.
