Daily reminder: Transphobia actively contributes to sexism. If you donโ€™t fit the beauty standard and are seen as masculine in any way shape or form, you are seen as transgender and as a โ€œproblemโ€

I think itโ€™s incredibly important here to not overlook the fact that she is a Black woman. Transphobia, racism, and sexism overlap significantly because of the incredibly eurocentric beauty standards women are judged on.

The natural world is more interconnected than you can possibly imagine and learning about it just gives you an endless cascade of realizations about symbiotic relationships that permeate every level of the ecosystem

Iโ€™ve been learning about fallen leaves. Many of you may know that fallen leaves are used by many moth and butterfly species to hibernate through the winter. This, my friends, is only the very beginning of the leaf layerโ€™s importance.

The layer of fallen leaves that covers the ground in winter has the following functions (and more):

  • Keeping the soil temperature more consistent
  • Insulating the earliest spring flowers to stop them from freezing
  • Protecting plants late in the year from being killed by early frosts
  • Sheltering 94% of moth species during their winter hibernation as well as many butterflies and other insects
  • Fertilizing and enriching the soil. The nutrients in fallen leaves are the main source of soil nutrients in habitats worldwide. Streams and rivers in forests carry the nutrients of leaves far and wide.
  • Providing habitat for predators like salamanders and spiders.
  • Suppressing weed growth.
  • Improving the germination of tree seeds (e.g. acorns)
  • Attracting beneficial microbes
  • Increasing the water holding capacity of the soil
  • Providing a food source for birds to feed their babies on in the spring (insects)

Whatโ€™s more, the fallen leaves of every species of tree have different properties that affect their effects on the ecosystem, including: size, shape, toughness, and speed of decomposition. The leaves of broadleaf deciduous trees are optimized to support and fertilize the deciduous forest environment.

you would think saying โ€œwomen are biologically inferiorโ€ would actually NOT be feminist rhetoric, and youโ€™d be correct. which is why I, a big brained genius terf, will instead say โ€œmen have a biological advantage in [insert anything here].โ€ I am very smart

I so desperately want to be able to convince Trump supporters with facts and logic and empathy, but itโ€™s so important to remember that their ignorance is INTENTIONAL. my mom didnโ€™t let us watch Sleeping Beauty growing up. I asked her why recently and she said, โ€œit was evil.โ€ when I pointed out other movies had similar themes and depictions of evil, and asked what the difference was, she couldnโ€™t. I pressed one more time and she just said, โ€œit felt evil to me. I didnโ€™t like itโ€. same thing with dune 2: she said it was โ€œdarkโ€, and I was, โ€œliterally, like the movieโ€™s lighting? Or the themes?โ€ and she said โ€œI donโ€™t knowโ€ and didnโ€™t want to talk about it more. many conservatives genuinely cannot tell the difference between โ€œI donโ€™t like itโ€ and โ€œthis is evilโ€ and they do not care to learn despite many chances

and while Iโ€™m at, this can also be true of left-leaning people!!!! please think about things. you are not necessarily smarter than conservatives and you are not immune to propaganda

you can tell how bad the stock market is doing by seeing fox new coverage of a trans player in an obscure sport

the more obscure the sport, the worse the dow is doing

In case you donโ€™t believe me

โ€œPair have won roughly 75% of their matchesโ€

So youโ€™re telling me that players who made it to the championship have won a lot of previous games? damn thatโ€™s crazy I thought the championship was only for people who lost a lot.

I wonder if the braingeniuses at fox also shared the win percentages of the cis competitors too.

Also in case you forgot: itโ€™s fucking POOL there is no strength advantage jesus fucking christ how is it not plain as day to everyone that this is just a moral panic. Look me in the eye and tell me that having ever had testosterone in your body confers a significant and lifelong advantage at delicately tapping balls with the tip of a stick. Be fucking for real.

And I canโ€™t fucking stand when cis allies try to defend trans women in sports by pulling up stats about how specific competitors arenโ€™t winning their competitions. Oh, including us doesnโ€™t matter because weโ€™re not going to beat the real cis women anyway! Being allowed to play at all is the fucking baseline. The real question is if trans women will ever be allowed to win.

Also back to the original topic:

Fox News social media graphic reading "female fencer receives award for courage after refusing to compete against trans opponent"ALT

Posted 3 days ago amidst the market meltdown from trumpโ€™s tariffs.

I think this case in particular really lays bare how nakedly stupid the trans sports panic is. Erin Reed has some great reporting on the situation, but hereโ€™s a rough sequence of events:

  • Fencing exists. Itโ€™s a co-ed sport.
  • The cis woman fencer in question, Stephanie Turner, faced and defeated multiple cis men fencers and finished 8th just a week before the competition where she forfeited.
  • Turner learns that she will fence against Redmond Sullivan, who has never said that sheโ€™s trans. Turner learns this because โ€œshe routinely vets her opponents ahead of competitions to try to make sure none of them are transgender,โ€ (Reedโ€™s article) and found the claim on Reduxx, a right wing news site. Turner says she has spent a lot of time over multiple years worrying about facing a trans opponent, and says she started crying when she learned Sullivan might be trans. Again, she had just defeated multiple cis men the week before.
  • Turner decides that itโ€™s โ€œgodโ€™s willโ€ that she forfeit her match with Sullivan. She claims that doing so โ€œwill probably, at least for the moment, destroy my lifeโ€
  • Turner forfeits by taking a knee against Sullivan. Sullivan initially believes Turner might be injured and asks if she is hurt. Turner responds โ€œNo. I am refusing to fence you, because I am a woman and you are a man.โ€ Again, Turner had just defeated multiple cis men just a week prior, and fencing routinely has mixed-gender matchups.
  • Turner is ejected from the completion for refusing to compete against an eligible opponent. Sullivan comes in 24th out of 38 competitors.
  • Turnerโ€™s supposed โ€œlife destroyingโ€ forfeit nets her multiple media appearances and a $5000 cash prize from anti-trans organization XX-XY Athletics Fund. Sullivan is no longer on her university fencing team and her records have been removed from the teamโ€™s website.

Absolutely insane
