I’ve never watched the show - they seem cute though!
This is my initial sketch of the Mermaid Queen - getting down the general idea of her. Then there were the pencils for the larger painting. I wanted her painting to be really focused on spirals and circles!
Then came the flat colors. I did five paintings for the wonderful Dinoberry Press, and on each painting I started with a watercolor wash over the penciled lines, and then blocked in colors with gouache. Worked from large to small, typical painting stuff.

Currently my favorites/top listens are Adia Victoria (Clean, Nice Folks), Hurray for the Riff Raff (Buffalo, The Body Electric), Dua Saleh (bankrupt, Sugar Mama), Johnny Cash (A Boy Named Sue, She Used to Love Me a Lot), The Secret Sisters (Tennessee River Runs Low, Water Witch), Mob Deep (Shook Ones II, Outta Control)… I’ve been really liking Doechii’s (Nosebleeds, Alter Ego w JT) stuff too.
Growing up I listened to Dolly Parton (9 to 5, Coat of Many Colors) and Iz Kamakawiwoʻole (Over the Rainbow, Ahi Wela) and the Pistol Annie’s (Lemon Drop, Trailer for Rent) the most I’d say along with the sad women and rap my dad listened to at the time.
My mom was really into KISS, Prince, and Michael Jackson (even had me in a Michael Jackson musical as a kid LOL) but her hair band pretty boy taste didn’t rub off on me hahaha.
