Nintendo has just announced that Donkey Kong 64 will be heading to the Nintendo Switch Online Classics library on June 4. Like every other Nintendo 64 game available on Nintendo Switch Online, Donkey Kong 64 will only be accessible to those subscribed to the pricier NSO Expansion Pack.
Ever since Nintendo announced it was adding Nintendo 64 games to Switch Online all the way back in September 2021, fans have been hoping to see Donkey Kong 64. These hopes were raised last July when fans thought they spotted blurred box art for Donkey Kong 64 in an official Nintendo Switch Online trailer. Fans also thought they could make out the box art for Super Smash Bros., Glover, and Forsaken 64. While Glover and Super Smash Bros. still haven't made it to Nintendo Switch Online's N64 library, Forsaken 64 was added in September 2025, and Donkey Kong 64 is barreling its way towards the service right now.
Nintendo Switch Users Have Until June 1 to Play 2025 Roguelike for Free
Fans of action roguelike games on the Switch and Switch 2 have limited time to play one of the genre's biggest hits completely free of charge.
Donkey Kong 64 Is Coming to Nintendo Switch Online in June
Developed by Rare, Donkey Kong 64 originally released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64. Much like Banjo Kazooie before it, Donkey Kong 64 was a very early attempt from Rare to create the ultimate 3D mascot platformer, with players assuming the roles of various Kong family members as they face off against King K. Rool in a variety of platforming-based challenges. Fans will be able to relive this nostalgic classic when it hits Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack's library on June 4.

While a year-long subscription to Nintendo Switch Online currently costs $19.99, the addition of the Expansion Pack brings that total up to $49.99 per year. That said, a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription gives players full access to the entire Switch Online Classics library, which is home to almost 400 retro video games. These include both incredibly popular and lesser-known titles from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, GBA, Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, GameCube, and the Virtual Boy.
Though the addition of Donkey Kong 64 will be the first time the Nintendo 64 Classics library has been updated this year, Nintendo Switch Online as a whole has received a total of seven updates so far in 2026. The GameCube library received Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. The NES library received Pac-Man, The Tower of Druaga, and Mendel Palace. The Game Boy library got Balloon Kid and Yoshi. The GBA got Mario vs. Donkey Kong. And an entirely new Virtual Boy library was added to NSO + Expansion Pack, bringing 15 new games to the overall roster.

Upon Donkey Kong 64's arrival on June 4, the Nintendo 64 Switch Online library will have a total of 43 games in the US. But while that number is nothing to scoff at, there are still some big N64 titles fans long to see. Super Smash Bros., Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Diddy Kong Racing, and Conker's Bad Fur Day are all just a few examples.
