So a guy named John Humphrey Noyes founded a “religious communal society” (read: cult) in 1849. Basically he thought everyone should be fucking everyone, and he also thought the rapture had already happened in 70 AD but I’m not sure how that squares with wanting to fuck everyone.

In order to ensure they didnt get the women folk pregnant 24/7, they instituted proto-eugenics-type rules. Noyes also believed that men shouldn’t ejaculate.

He also paired up adolescent kids with older “mentors” who were supposed to instruct them in sex, so post-menopausal women would be paired up with 14 year old boys. I believe Noyes took it upon himself to instruct the 14-year-old girls. (My source for that is a book called Cults Like Us)

Anyway the one bit of industry that survives from that wacky sex cult was the Oneida silverware company
