God of War Ragnarok Thread

Looks like the game is half off right now on the PS Store. Anyone play this on a base PS4? How did it hold up?
Hngggg that is tempting, thank you. I was planning on getting it secondhand, but 30 bucks ain't bad... Guess I'll see, if they announce a PC port any time soon I might hold off.
Whenever the PC port does come out, it's more than likely going to be $50 on release. BTW, the PS4 version of Ragnarok does have slightly longer loading times compared to the PS5 version, but it is not by much. If you have a PS4 Pro, it's near instantaneous next to a PS5.
I did and it was nearly identical to the 2018 game. I think there was a bug that made it crash at a certain area but it was patched like a week later and never happened again. Visually a bit more detailed. Ran as smoothly as the first game for me. I guess that’s one thing Sony has always been good about is squeezing performance out of older hardware.
I never did that bug and only knew about it way after the fact. Glad it didn't take long to fix.

Would love if they dived deeper into bridging this huge gap. For it to be left like, “Kratos wandered north and hid out *shrugs*” isn’t giving this character enough of a deserved catalyst for what we saw him as in GoW 2018 and the sequel. Visiting a destroyed Greece either via flashback or rift jump or something on modern hardware would be pretty spectacular too.

I got GoW: Raganrok for free by trading in some games I'm not playing anymore. I'll be ready for the DLC on Tuesday.

I’ll have to wait until I renew my PS+ Essential. It sucks that the Black Friday 30% discount only applied to the most expensive option.
So it looks like it's a massively overhauled Nilflheim challenge from the GOW 2018. I guess it is adding ton a new stuff compared to that and no one should really complain as it's free, but I was kinda hoping for one last narrative-driven adventure for Kratos; Some sort of epilogue. Oh well, still looks great and I will patiently wait for the eventual pc release
It's basically a rouge-lite mode/realm, but it's still something new and to get people playing again. I'll take it. I have my save files. they work, the used copy I got works, and I am ready for tomorrow evening.
Hopefully the “Show Me Mastery” unbeatable challenge they mentioned isn’t just a big damage sponge that OHK’s the player lol.
Alright, it's time to revive this thread for the PC release!
I watched so many gameplay clips and story bits on youtube, so I was very excited to finally getting to play this on my pc. And given how amazing the first game's port was on launch, my expectation was through the roof.
I will start with the good bits; the customization options for graphics/resolution is amazing. There are so many options to tinker around with, including HDR, DLSS, Latency Reduction, and Frame Gen. Everytime you enter the graphic settings, the game shows real-time effects on the performance. I found DLSS/DLAA setting make the game run like a slideshow, and this is on a RTX 3080 and i7-13700k machine. DLSS/Quality, which is the next option over, suddenly made the game run like butter. WTF
But the game looks gorgeous even in the medium settings. The game doesn't tell you this, but the "fullscreen" is actually borderless window, so you can conviniently switch to other application windows or switch to your 2nd monitor to make a reply on the escapist forum....wait.
The PSN requirement is there, but apparently if you've logged into a PlayStation account via another PlayStation game on the same PC, Ragnarok can automatically use that login information that's saved on your system, which is why you won't see the prompt when you launch it for the first time. Interesting discovery there.
As with any port of a console-origin game, I always compare the controls between the controller and PC. And since I never played it on PS5, I thought this would be an interesting experience comparing an xbox one controller (I am aware of the irony) and KB + M. Especially in a game like this, where multiple button presses are needed during combat, coupled with twitch reflexes from time to time. And I gotta say, Xbox controller wins here. Seems that's the case for action/RPG games, while vice versa for shooter games. The game does offer control remapping, but between weapon switching, light and heavy attack combos, aiming, KB + M just doesn't seem to work here.
I will give my thoughts on story and gameplay bits after putting more hours into the game

All Sony needs to do now is announce a remastered collection or something of the first half dozen games for PS5/PC.
