Back to the Lab
Aster could see Hazel waiting for her at the agreed upon place right under that really concerningly shaped tree that looked like it constantly bending under a very strong wind. It stood direly by the wall they would have to clime over if… no when they wanted to reached the lab.
The young woman hadn't been all that enthusiastic about this plan form the beginning she would actually have rather taken any other option over this one and that said something considering some of them were even more reckless then this one; especially if they wanted to get this over with as soon as possible, which they did.
"Hay, your finally here, the guard has just passed we should be good to enter if we do this quickly." Hazel's voice melted some of Aster's worries away, despite it having no right to. Just because Hazel wasn't generally reckless and had had her back for so long didn't mean that this wouldn't end in disaster. But the sure and even a little exited tone of her partner's voice helped sooth some of Aster's fear non the less.
"Let's get this over with." Aster sight before gripping the wall and climbing it. Aster could feel the magic it was infused with, could feel the pain it should induce any visitor with, she could taste it. It would have been reassuring if it wasn't this disgusting. In the little live Aster could remember the very little magic that tasted this appalling.
She she reached the top of the thankfully not more than two meters high wall she reached out for to lift her compatriot over it.
Different to Aster, Hazel wasn't fueled by magic not the same way Aster was, hazel had once tried to explain the difference to Aster, that she was a being of magic but not made of magic, she could absorb it but only with intend only in rituals, with spells or symbols. She couldn't absorb it make it her own, feed on it, as she had called it.
That was why she needed Aster's help needed to touch her so Aster could absorb the magic before it could find away into her body seep though the little cranks to what differentiated Hazels magic form every other one. Hazel had also once tried to explain that to her how magic could attack her how it didn't melt into her the same way it did into Aster, she had said she wasn't made of it the same way Aster was, but that wasn't right Aster could feel Hazel's magic every time they touched it made her was she was, but it also was so different to the one hazel was so apt to mold with her chants and runes, her magic like the one of every other living being Aster had ever come in contact with, was more intend, brighter and softer, but also sharper and dimmer than the once that was include in unliving things, or the one singing through the wild the forest and the wind.
Aster held hazels hand for the way down too, the hard part was done, or the hard technically hard part the absorbing of magic so bitter and sharp made Aster still nauseous, but that wasn't what made her stop, neither was it the guard the owner of the lab had hired, one single guard for the big complex that was the lab was both cock and kind of pitiful. It was far to little to actually do anything, and certainly not the most dangerous measure the owner of the lab had put up to keep unwelcome guests out of this place, but that one was here at all was a sign that he didn't totally trust that the magic alone would keep what he hid in the lab form actually leaving.
Aster couldn't think of the things, not the people taped in the different facilities around the main house though, couldn't remember how it had been to be stuck here herself, not aware that she was, that she had aright to personhood no matter how much the owner had tried to denie to her.
the woman was rather proud of herself when she didn't stop didn't let the memories make her freeze up. In stead she pulled her partner with her with a fast step.
She didn't let go of Hazels hand though.
Not when they reached the door not when hazel painted one of her symbols over the lock whispering words in a language Aster didn't understand, not when they suck though the corridors that should look familiar but didn't, being bound down on a stretch was a very different perspective, and for the first time in very long Aster was thankful for that. It was very hard for her to let go when they reached their final destination, the Alchemy laboratory.
The lace they could do what they came here for, could give Aster back some of the power the owner of this place had taken for her, could make her feel more like herself again.
"Are you doing all right? I know this is a lot." Hazel looked worried, it was kind of cute actually, how her face crunched up looking up to aster.
"Not yet it's not." Aster actually could feel amusement rising in her. "And I'm not the one concocting a brew that is supposed to brake several bindings and give me beck myself, Chipmunk"
"It's just a litte Alchemy. Nothing but spicy Chemistry really" Hazel grind, she looked so much like the young chemistry genie she had been the first time they had met.
The first time that day Aster felt warm. This could go right. Even if she would remember being something far more dangerous, she didn't think she could ever harm such a adorable woman.
Even it did turn out the owner was right that she was a monster, Hazel could probably make her stop any brutality just by being this sweet.
