your regularly scheduled reminder that tumblr operated with <20 tech staff for literal years. honestly even having like… 100 was a relatively new and short-lived development
i’ve been here since 2008 bro i Remember
november 2010 3 years after launch - for months they had been “at capacity” in their offices with a team of 12. then they became 20 😱
unwrapping tumblr has a handy infographic showing we didn’t get to over 100 total staff for 5 years, and even getting 100 was a pretty rapid uptick from “less than 20 this whole time”
in 2023 there were 139 employees… which is still more than in 2012. i laughed when they called it a “skeleton crew”. that skeleton crew was bigger than the entire crew for the first third of this place’s existence.
ive made this post before but again why do northern state trans people talk like the government is fully just rounding up and executing transgenders on sight in the south
like yeah it sucks balls and all to live here sometimes but its so funny when some new yawka or whatever is like “i want to travel to [thing] so bad but I can’t, because it’s in [southern state], where i could be arrested, or shot in the street, because it is illegal to be trans there. so i guess i’ll just never get to go to the thing :( ” buddy many of us live here every day and are transgender in public every day i wont pretend there’s 0 risk but many of you are starting to sound like those true crime podcast people who rearrange their lives around minimizing the chances of being kidnapped and sex trafficked from a midday target parking lot

Im sorry but it is so funny how people outside of tumblr view us. Like why are the tiktokers treating tumblr like some professional ass website you need to do extensive prep before you begin posting on. And the follower farming advice is so fucking funny to me when this is the website where people actively hate getting new followers
