the thing about Buck is that he’s always been a loser (affectionate) but he used to think he wasn’t a loser whereas in season 8 particularly he seems to have really leaned into his loserism
I think what’s particularly interesting about the “competition” scene is that, at first, Tommy assumed Buck knew exactly who and what he was talking about. He only started to backtrack when Buck got confused and asked him what he meant - it seems like Tommy had an “oh shit” moment there and realised he’d revealed something Buck wasn’t aware of. But Tommy thought he was.
And I haven’t seen too many people talk about the line “Come on don’t make me say it.” Tommy thought Buck’s feelings for Eddie were so obvious that he shouldn’t even have to put it into words.
I think it’s just very interesting how the writers decided to frame this scene. To have Buck’s ex-boyfriend, who spent a LOT of time with Buck and Eddie, clearly believe that there is something going on between Buck and Eddie that is so glaringly obvious it shouldn’t even need to be said.
And that’s the way it’s framed for the audience as well. Even to GA members who might not be initially aware of the Buddie of it all, as soon as Tommy says “don’t make me say it” you are supposed to immediately know who he’s talking about the way that Buck does.

Sorry you mean to tell me this man had a panic attack because his “ready made family” with his girlfriend and kid is too much but he deadass secretly put his coworker bestie in his will over a year ago to take custody of said child if something were to happen to him instead of his biological family??? and told him to stop acting like he’s expendable bc he’s a vital part of both his and his child’s life??
eddie diaz u r insane
I didn't come out here to be an Uber driver, Buck. Or a firefighter. You went out there to be Christopher's dad.
now dare to tell me that michael’s reaction to david leaving for haiti for 2 months isn’t the same as buck’s reaction to eddie leaving for texas for an unknown period of time
they used different words, but the meaning was the same
and we also saw hen’s reaction to chimney leaving to find maddie for god knows how long in 5x04
there’s a huge difference between platonic and romantic, and i feel like these parallels show it clearly
this show doesn’t stop amazing me with its symbolism
I want to see Eddie going to see a therapist bcus he had been going through years of repression and they were going through his emotions. then, they finally got into the topic of Buck and their obviously not platonic relationship.
"Maybe, instead of jumping into a relationship with your best friend, how about you take the time to just explore your sexuality for a bit?"
Confused, Eddie leaned forward in his seat. "I'm sorry," he huffed, humourless. "But all I said was 'I'm gay' not; 'hey, I am totally and irrevocably in love with my bisexual best friend'"
His therapist raised his brow at that. "And are you?"
"in love with Buck?"
a little while into them being together buck actually says yes one of the times eddie asks if he wants to go to basketball with him. and eddie's like. should i be worried. and buck's like. not if we're on the same team :). and eddie's like okay ❤️ yay ❤️. so they go to basketball and buck realises his mistake relatively quickly. because he and eddie haven't done anything remotely competitive since getting together and his competency kink is difficult enough to keep under control at work but suddenly eddie's confident and competitive and a little cuthroat and a lot sweaty. and buck is finding it difficult to focus on anything but his super hot fucking boyfriend. (he gets hit in the face by the ball three times and each time eddie comes over to check on him in medic mode and buck has to run away so his half chub doesn't graduate to full). anyway the game goes as smoothly as it possibly can and then everyone's talking about heading to a bar and buck's like. sorry guys we've got to go pick up our kid from a friend's. and eddie follows him to the car like a starry eyed duckling because of our kid but he's still going to give buck shit. chris is sleeping over at his friend's i know you know that. and buck presses him up against the side of his truck and says. how did i ever think this was about tommy. and eddie grins like a shark. and they get halfway to breaking several different public decency laws right then and there.

summary:
You could have done something about it,” Eddie points out, still, teasing and faking innocence and grinning, as he cups Buck’s face lazily with one hand. If Eddie was not the love of his life, he would shove him off the bed, but because he is, and Buck is nice and his heart is still overflowing with love, he just glares at him, but there isn’t any heat behind it. *** or the morning after they confess their feelings

But imagine, roommate era Buddie and Eddie is talking to someone and they refer to Buck as his husband (callbacks to both Ana and the elf) and he's just... gleeful about it in contrast to his panic attack over Ana (and in line with Buck's soft acceptance of the elf's comment).
Anon, your mind. I need this??? I can imagine a pre-feelings realization Eddie having a big smile on his face and rosy cheeks, looking down and being like "Oh, no, no... he's just my..." and then he stops because he.. can't find a word? And he's like wait.... what is Buck to me?? I mean, he's just Buck. He has his own category in Eddie's life. He never had to define what that meant before. So he looks over at Buck who's laughing with Chris, telling him some random facts about the store they're in and... Oh. Oh.
