56: Hm... I have a funny story for this.

My family and I had recently gotten chickens, and while my mother and I were out in the coop at night, one of the chickens decided to caw/chicken scream in my ear. At the time I had expected chicken noises to be limited to the traditional "bawk bawk" but no, chickens make a wide range of noises, including a sound that I can only describe as someone screaming in the distance lol.

My first big roller coaster made me scared out of my wits, too.

“Raine! You in here?” A familiar Voice called, It was peppy and cheerful, Likely belonging to Annabelle

“Yeah, I’m in here” Raine called back, Closing the old tattered journal they’d found awhile ago, they hadn’t done much in it beside sketch a few Squirrels back when they found the Silos, “whats up?”
Annabelle giggled a little, a sound thats slowly becoming more common, they remembered back when all of this first happened, she hadn’t laughed or giggled for months “Just coming to Check on my favorite leader, let you know that Lunch is ready and that Father Thomas is looking for you” the teen chirped, A softer smile on her face
“Is that so? Any ideas as to why?” The elder asked, getting up from their Makeshift bed, tucking the journal into their satchel for later usage
“He didnt say, Only that he wanted to talk to you.” Annabelle replied, walking with Raine into the Main area of the partially ruined building, “it didn’t seem super urgent though.”
“Thats good, we can cross off Hunters finding us” Raine agreed, looking around at the camp, it was doing way better then in the old places they had hidden. It had been almost empty, A few Turtles but they weren’t too hard to lead away
Annabelle nodded, brushing a curl behind her ear, “I’m glad we found this place” she spoke, before Adding I’m tired of running and fearing for my life every second.“ Raine knew she was trying to be Positive, Between the hours of Travel, Running from the Monsters out there and Nearly dying, she and everyone else were ready to settle somewhere and attempt to make something of the new normal
"We’ll keep this a Safe place.” They promised, placing a hand on her shoulder. “If things go according to plan, we won’t have to worry about any of it.”
Annabelle nodded, A comforting thought to her, “anyway, You have things to do, and I have Lunch to help serve.” She emphasized, Gently punching their shoulder
“See you at Lunch?” They asked
“See you then Rai.” She chirped before parting ways and heading for an upper level

“There’s a chill in the Air” Sophie muttered to herself, Rubbing her hands together and Blowing on them to warm them, Autumn was coming, That much was clear, The Remaining Trees in the area were losing the leaves they had left-
Two hands covered her eyes “Guess who?” Came a familiar Usually stern voice, It was softer now, and less threatening
“Alice. I know its you.” Sophie replied, taking the Other woman’s hands into her own cold ones, “you aren’t exactly the most stealthy”
“No, I’m stealthy as hell. You just have good hearing.” Alice retorted, wrenching her hands free of Sophie’s, “Good Lord, Ever heard of Gloves? We have some you know.”
“Oh yeah? Well, Gloves Snag, and I’d rather not get caught on something when it counts” She pointed out, Shaking her head a bit, “besides, My hands were made for Winter weather”
“And mine aren’t?” The Blonde asked, Putting a hand over her heart as though offended
Sophie shook her head quickly “No, no thats not what I meant-” she blurted out, Crossing her hands in an X formation before she paused, hearing the most angelic sound
Alice was laughing
Really laughing, not that fake laugh, but a Genuine laugh..
“I know, I was just pullin your leg Soph” Alice teased, Smiling happily as she looked out over the view, “We gotta work on that, you know.”
Sophie nodded, tearing her eyes away to look back at the View, “Of course. There’s alot we have to work on” she responded, a soft sigh escaping her, “And not just with me. With other people too. Farm’s gotta get set up fully, Hunting’s coming up, Storage has to get prepped for that.”
Alice hummed in acknowledgement, “That’s true. Good thing it isn’t just us looking after things.” She chirped, looking back at the Other woman, before heading back towards the Stairs, “there’s other people to help. Don’t overwork yourself.”
“You sound like Raine.” Sophie grumbled, Leaning on her hand, It was cold again, She’d have to make another fire.
“Well, Sometimes your twin has some good ideas.” Alice commented, Sass heavy in her tone
“I can’t argue with you on that.” Sophie replied, Chuckling softly, “although if you aren’t careful, you may find yourself acting more like them.”
“As if! I’m just reminding you of what They’ve told Me several times Missy.” Alice teased playfully, Shaking her head as she waved, opening the door to the stairs, “Be safe, Okay? I’d hate for this to be our last time chatting.”
“Yes ma'am.” Sophie muttered, glancing behind her to watch the other woman leave, before turning her gaze back to the View yet again

A few more hours till Trade off

Raine trudged passed the remains of former stores that were long since Abandoned, remnants of clothes and old bottles of product littering the floor, Heading into the Food court, Where the Group usually held a form of school for the youngsters, They had an Idea that Father Thomas would be here.
And just like they suspected
The older nearly Gray haired Man stood in front of a few tables, he was setting out a few pieces of scrap paper and a few crayons he found among the ruins, humming a soft tune in that deep melodic voice of his
“Father” Raine stated, Informing the older man of their arrival, “Annabelle told me you were looking for me?”
“That i was.” He replied, still as calm as ever, “Do you have any clue as to why I may have called for you?”
“No Father, I haven’t the faintest Clue.” They answered, a Slight shake of their head confirming the truth about their answer, “why did you call for me? You usually don’t, Especially if it’s something you can handle yourself”
Father Thomas turned to face them, A soft smile settled on their face, That smile felt like one a Parent would give their child, “I have a Small request for you” he informed, sliding his hands into the pockets of his Black Suit jacket, “It may seem simple but I assure you, It likely won’t be”
Raine nodded, their eyes holding a hint of concern now, “Whats this request?” They asked, furrowing their brows, They were airing on the side of Caution. Father Thomas has always been.. Secretive, for Lack of a Better word. “I’m sure we can handle it”

“I need you to get me something from the nearby Town”

You’d think it’d be easy being a leader. You know? Boss people around, keep things organized?

Yeah, its not.

I should start from the beginning before this gets too out of hand

Hi, my name is Raine Haven, By the time of writing this, I am twenty six years old, and that’s all you need to know at the moment about me personally, aside from the fact that I have a twin named Sophianna, Sophie, And A little sister named Annabelle

We live on the Continent known as Sarvi, A war torn land, and far from the Paradise it was advertised as, It was supposed to be a safe haven in all of this chaos

Your probably wondering what the Chaos is? Well, its war. A war between People and these things we call Remnants. Remnants are.. well Mutated Beasts and people, We’ll used a.. Dog for example, It looks like a dog. Except if you took that dog and Broke its legs, stretched it and made it practically Skin and Bones
Not exactly the most Ideal Picture, I know but it’s the best descriptor I have. People don’t look much better, They’re twisted, and in some cases much much worse then the Beasts. Jaws half on, Legs mangled, Whatever killed them leaving marks almost resembling burns in their skin. They’re tall too. Way too Damn Tall.

Just so you know. The taller the Remnant, the faster it is. We call the shortest ones Turtles, they’re the slowest and by far the easiest to escape from.
Chasers, where to start with them.. You never want to be pinned by a Chaser, Chasers are some of the tallest and they are faster then any of the more common ones you’ll run into. I’ve seen one one time and it got to us before we knew what was happening
Squirrels can climb, Now I’m not saying the others can’t climb but Good Lord are Squirrels able to get up places. And they latch on. They don’t tend to move from The buildings they latch to, mostly harmless unless you get too close to their New abode
Hunters do exactly what their name suggests, They hunt whoever they see. and they won’t stop until that person is a mess of a corpse.
We haven’t seen any others if there are others, and frankly I don’t want to see the others. The most common we see are Husks, They aren’t too bad, A few stabs of a Knife or a few gunshots get them knocked down, they are faster then a normal human, About the speed of a Track runner, oh and for height, They’re a little above average

I should probably introduce who all I still have alive

There’s Me, I’m the leader, I didn’t want to be but someone had to.
Then there’s Sophie, she’s my twin so we’re the same age, although I’m Ten minutes older, She and Alice usually do supply runs together, But they’re our hunters for the most part.
Annabelle, she’s Seventeen now, Shes one of our medics, I’m the other one but we have an older lady, Claire, she helps too
Jacob Clark, our resident Carpenter, he’s helping set up a Farm, we have some animals too, Seeds are a problem though, Squirrels lurk around the Silos so we can’t exactly get in there yet.
Theodore McClintock, One of our younger survivors, He helps cook, Quiet boy, but being quiet can take you far in life now
Hazel West, She’s the youngest who helps out, only Thirteen years old, Shes learning the ropes to most things, Claire teaches her and the other kids
Claire Davis, Shes the oldest by far, Aside from Father Thomas, good old Southern Grammy turned Bloody Badass, She’s the one to teach kids about this world and the normal we live in now
Ellis Peterson, he is Sixteen years old with a Heart of Gold, I swear, prior to this, he woulda been one of those Good CEOs with the best work place environments, Good with his hands too
Allison Davis, we call her Alice though, she prefers it, she and Claire are a mother daughter duo, we found them hiding out in a building awhile back, one of the few people I can actually trust
Samantha Jones, my Cousin and our Handy-lady, She tinkers and wants to get more defense up, Her workshop is definitely something else
Father Thomas, an old Pastor, though we don’t exactly have anything for him to preach at the moment But he helps alot, especially with Cooking and the children

Speaking of kids

There’s Emily, She’s eight, Though she hasn’t been feeling well recently, Xavier and Westley, twins both Eleven, Katie, Ten, Sage, Nine and the youngest at Seven years old, Haley

We live in an old mall in the old Ruins of the once bustling Town of Evetide, at least I think this was a Mall, Its too hard to tell now, but the walls are still standing, the roof’s mostly gone, But the ground here is safe.
Hard to think its been a couple years since the Remnants first started emerging and ruining everything
Anyway, I have to go. I’ll keep updating the journal when I can
