Over the past two decades, e-commerce has fundamentally changed the American retail landscape. What began as a niche alternative to brick-and-mortar stores has grown into a dominant retail channel, as shopping online gradually became more convenient for consumers. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, e-commerce sales grew from $27 billion in 2000 to $1.23 trillion last year, as the share of online sales in total retail sales increased from 0.9 percent to 16.4 percent. The digital shopping boom brought profound, and sometimes overlooked, logistical challenges with it. To meet the ever-growing demand for online purchases, retailers and logistics providers had to invest tens of billions into fulfillment infrastructure and solve the notoriously difficult and expensive "last-mile" puzzle to keep up with consumer expectations for fast, reliable delivery. Data from the latest Pitney Bowes Parcel Shipping Index illustrates the monumental scale of the challenge. In 2025, U.S. parcel volume reached a record 23.1 billion packages, up from 22.4 billion in 2024 and double the 11.5 billion parcels handled in 2016. That equates to almost 70 parcels shipped per person last year and 171 parcels per household – roughly one every other day. As our chart shows, parcel shipment volume surged dramatically during the pandemic years, growing from 15.4 billion in 2019 to 21.7 billion in 2021. After plateauing in 2022 and 2023, parcel deliveries have returned to their upward trajectory and Pitney Bowes projects U.S. parcel volume to reach 31 billion by 2031.

Samsung Electronics is expected to remain the leading manufacturer in the global foldable #smartphone market in 2026. This is according to a forecast by market research firm Counterpoint. Apple follows in second place with a 25 percent market share, despite its first foldable phone shipping only tomorrow - well into the 2026's fourth quarter. Despite a short sales window in 2026, Counterpoint projects sales of up to six million foldable iPhone Duos, as Apple is hitting the important year-end business with its new release. This is despite the Duo being its most expensive phone so far. In a segment currently dominated by Samsung, Apple's market entry represents not just an expansion of its product lineup, but also a direct challenge to the market leader. This also highlights the fact that the foldables market is currently concentrated among a few major players. Huawei trails Samsung (and soon Apple) at a 22-percent market share projected for 2026, while Motorola Solutions, HONOR and other manufacturers hold significantly smaller shares of the nascent market.

Concern about immigration differs widely across the globe. While respondents from some countries place it among the biggest issues for their country very frequently, others are more likely to pick different issues. Across 32 countries surveyed by Statista Consumer Insights between October 2025 and September 2026, immigration was named as a major issue by an average of just 22 percent of respondents presented with 20 topics to choose from – in contrast to the prominent role it sometimes takes up in the media. However, the country-specific answers ranged from just 4 percent in China and 5 percent in Brazil to 43 percent in the United Kingdom. Immigration was the most frequently named major issue after inflation/cost of living and housing, respectively, in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands most recently. It came in rank 3 in Germany at 35 percent naming it, while 38 percent being concerned about it in Spain only placed it in rank 6 there as housing, inflation, the economy, corruption and healthcare were seen as more pressing. In the United States, immigration was named as a major issue by 25 percent – rank 9. The topic was picked about as (in)frequently in Eastern European countries, for example Poland. While known for their at times negative stance on immigration, Eastern Europe also generally receives fewer migrants than its neighbors, with the exception of recent immigrants from Ukraine. In a similar vein, Japan – often portrait as ani-immigration while receiving little – collectively ranked immigration as the eighth most pressing issue with just 20 percent of respondents naming it.

Newsweek and Statista have published World’s Best Smart Hospitals 2027, spotlighting hospitals leading digital transformation. The #ranking looks beyond AI to assess digital infrastructure, telemedicine, robotics, and how hospitals put technology to work. Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic retain the top two spots, while Samsung Medical Center rises from No. 15 to No. 4. The ranking features hospitals across 33 countries and assesses smart hospital capabilities and digital maturity, not overall quality of care. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eMkxuMKh

Data from Statista Consumer Insights shows that almost half of Americans between the ages of 18 and 64 are open to using AI-based tools for budgeting, investing and financial planning. The survey also shows that men are more likely than women to let AI take the lead when it comes to investment and financial planning. While 51 percent of U.S. men said they would try this out, only 41 percent of U.S. women said the same. Overall, 46 percent of Americans agreed. However, age is the bigger predictor of willingness to give AI financial advice a go. Members of Gen Z as well as Millennials are more likely to use such a set-up, at more than half saying so, while agreement among U.S. Gen X members and Baby Boomers is as low as 35 percent and 21 percent, respectively. As part of the survey, 47 percent of Millennial women and 52 percent of Gen Z women in the U.S. said they would use such tools. The same was only true for 42 percent of Gen X men and a low 25 percent of Baby Boomer men. Interest in AI financial advice looks similar in the United Kingdom, but is lower in Germany. Only one third of German respondents indicated interest in AI-led financial planning or investing. Interestingly, numbers across all three countries did not rise since the same survey was carried out in 2025 despite AI making gains over this time period.
