Idk if it’s just me or not, but. I was thinking about Dazzle recently, and I had a realization
In nature, only bucks (male white-tailed deer) have antlers. This applies to not just regular white-tailed deer, but to 99% of the entire Cervidae family that they’re a part of
Normally, with most animals that are in that family, it’s does (female white-tailed deer. Bucks and does are interchangeable with other terms, depending on what member of the Cervidae family we’re talking about) that DON’T have antlers
Initially, I thought, “huh, that’s a little strange, why give Dazzle antlers when she’s supposed to be a girl deer and would grow up to be a doe, that doesn’t make sense”
I figured,, maybe it was to help people recognize that she’s a deer. Idk man 🤷♀️ There are other ways to convey what she is aside from having antlers, I think. This isn’t a dig at Meg or whoever designed Dazzle btw, this is just my thought process, and I mean no harm or offense with any of it. Regardless of the design choices and whatnot, Dazzle’s very cute and I adore her
Out of curiosity though, I looked up what animals were in the Cervidae family alongside white-tailed deer, and I found 1(ONE) subspecies where the females grow antlers. And you wanna know what that subspecies is?
It’s caribou. More commonly known as reindeer
Until I’m told what kind of deer Dazzle’s supposed to be, I’m just gonna headcanon that she’s a cute little baby reindeer
Reindeer calves come with a lot of different colors and coat patterns too, so if she WAS a reindeer, it could be a lot of fun to experiment with colors and coat patterns to see what looks good on her
Examples, so you can see what I mean
((These pictures come from here, if you wanna go read about the reindeer in the photos))
We see the calves with their various colorations and coat patterns on the left, as compared to what they looked like after they grew up in the images on the right
They can be totally white, chocolate brown, or anything in between. Even a mix of colors is possible. Dazzle’s sort of a tan color right now, so I feel like, as an adult, maybe she’d have this slightly darker tan colored body with brown and/or white accents here and there. If we wanted to have a little fun with it, maybe she could even have a red Rudolph (or Spigot) nose
