Obviously Niles wants to be noticed. Who wants to be poked by a pin or pinched by a forceps?

But then back in season 1 their clothes weren’t color coordinated yet. I think it started season 2 when there was subtle hints that they were being paired when there were episodes they were color-coordinated.
