ok, has anyone been following the footsteps of a rag doll dance lately… i feel entranced. spellbound, even.
Thoughts on Final Fantasy so far:
Everything feels very classic and simple. I think my closest comparison for the structure would be Pokémon. There are just few enough options that I’m not terribly overwhelmed without a strict tutorial.
Got to name my little guys. I chose the red and black mages because I know from playing fire emblem that I rarely end up using healers. But Tetra seemed the most stunted, leveling wise, so I wonder if I’ll regret that.
I was pretty diligent in my exp grinding since enemies don’t have health bars. I’m still not sure what happens when a unit dies! I enjoyed the sort-of mindless combat. You really can just button mash through every encounter, having everyone attack the first mob. But the magic options and decent amount of different enemies kept my attention. Also the sleeping bag sprite is so cute! Eventually after exploring every nook and cranny on that first continent I took on Garland. I think it only took about 3 turns to defeat him.
The king rebuilt the bridge for me after about 2 hours of playing. I had fun and will definitely be playing more.

i'd rather see 1000 graffiti penises than 1 product billboard. i'd live in dick city if it meant i could avoid advertisements in my daily life.

Thoughts on Dynasty Warriors 2, so far:
Multiple people warned me that the gameplay is pretty repetitive, but otherwise I went in blind. I hadn’t even heard of the franchise before Friday, but I’m familiar with the Three Kingdoms because of Princess Jellyfish.
I was pretty confused at first. The main menu looks a lot like a fighting game and I was pretty sure there was a "story" mode. But you’re immediately given 18 or so characters to choose from. I tried out Zhao Yun, Xing Cai, and Zhou Yu (fire powers?) on Musou Mode but could only make it to the treasure chest/loot area with each (about 200 kills). I made sure to avoid free play because I wanted to make some progress (assumed free play would be a dojo situation that was just for practicing).
After about an hour I felt pretty dumb since the combat seems relatively simple? -compared to 1v1 fighters. I read some forums looking for general tips, and saw people talking about "grinding" on Free Mode, to make the main story easier.
So I tried out Free Mode with Zhen Ji. I felt like I could finally get into a rhythm with her flute special? I had gathered at this point that if an enemy attacks me from behind, I’m basically unable to respond until I get launched 6 feet and get back up. I had this problem the least with her because her special kinda has a radius attack instead of just in front. I also realized I’d been rushing ahead of my supports, let’s call them, in order to clear areas faster. Not sure if that effects me getting snuck up on, or if they’re just for decoration.
I was actually able to clear about 2/3 the map this time and I thought her health bar, once it was red, seemed way sturdier. I’d like to give the game another try but I don’t expect to be playing it that much. My experience was a little too button mash-y.
there are beautiful comics out there that have very little or even nothing to do with batman. and we can read them.
Hey you all know about that fungus that possesses ants to make them climb on the tip of grass blades in hopes of getting eaten by a cow, so that the fungus can continue its life cycle in the cow's guts? Because I think that's the kind of thing that's wrong with cave divers.
We don't know what's down there. We don't know what's gotten into their heads that makes them so determined to physically, personally go down there to find out. But I wouldn't entirely dismiss the possibility that whatever has gotten into them is very invested in getting eaten by whatever is down there.
