German has borrowed the italian “Ciau”, spelling it “Tschau” and only using it as a goodby instead of also a greeting.
I had completely forgotten about this, this is fantastic.
If you enjoyed “ciao” becoming “tschau”, you’ll definitely want to hear where “tschüss” (German, also meaning “goodbye”) comes from!
Borrowed from German Low German tschüß from earlier adjüs, from Dutch adjuus, back-formation from adjuusjes, from French adieu.

He said to trust him, he said America would win this trade war. But, once his MAGA base and his GOP allies started revolting because he lost them pretty much everything, he backed down without gaining a fucking thing.
Not one country conceded to his demands (unsurprisingly, not even those uninhabited islands off the coast of Antarctica). So, all he and his beloved tariffs achieved is a wrecked U.S. economy.
No one could have seen this coming except literally all of the finance, trade, and economy experts who said this would happen.

this may just be me going into overanalysis mode but i feel like the choreography of spellcasting can tell you so much about a magic user. a snap of the fingers, for example, implies confidence, even arrogance, while hands thrust out and straining to the fingertips suggests desperation, throwing one’s whole body into the spell as though hoping the physical effort will make a difference. rapid, jerky body language tells you that a spellcaster is passionate and reckless, while graceful, fluid movements demonstrate calm and concentration. some magic users may choose to stomp their feet or clap their hands when casting, channeling power through percussive motion, whilst others may see magic as a tool separate from the self, and focus is through objects like a wand or staff. a new spellcaster just coming into their power may be tentative and slow, but a practiced study of magic will be able to rely on muscle memory to guide them.
