I suppose I should make it final here, following up my last post:

My mom, Bellfry, died on March 31. If you knew her, you can come get more info from me here on Tumblr at crescentcoral– it’s a sideblog but was always the one I ran especially to share things with her.

I’m not planning to deactivate this blog, but obviously there won’t be any updates.

Hi all, this bellfry’s daughter,@pilferingapples .

I’m sorry to say she’s in the hospital and unlikely to come back to Tumblr.

I’ll try to respond to people about this on my blog; don’t know how long I’ll be able to access this one. But I wanted her Tumblr friends to know .

You are allowed to write a better world than you see.

Write soft academia. Write loyal friends. Write healthy relationships. Write good parents. Write siblings who get along.

You can have a plot even when your characters love each other. You can have tension even when people are kind.

this gets so much funnier when you consider that people literally just live on mount everest, there’s a perfect parallel between random europeans “discovering” a mountain that people already live on and medical professionals suddenly discovering autism despite people having it going back god knows how long

For people with anxiety about filing taxes, here’s what things that happen when you make a mistake on your tax return:

- it gets corrected

- you get a letter in the mail either asking for some additional information or a letter showing the adjustment

- you pay the amount (there’s options for payment plans too!) or get a refund

Things that do not happen

- you’re “in trouble”

- you are charged with fraud

- you go to jail

I know that most people are probably just joking/exaggerating when they say a mistake on their return means they get thrown in jail but when I worked with the public I always would encounter people who believed that would happen and they would be panicking about it. So I like to put this out there every year because if I can even prevent one person from feeling that way, it’s worth it

Annual reblog of this important information.

The thingy above where you sign your tax form says that you’ve filled it out to the best of your ability.  “Sir, I am a dumbass” is 100% a valid defense

I was a full calendar year late filing my tax return for 2020 and got a twelve buck fine.

Also, unless you owe like over 15k the irs probably isn’t going to waste the time and money to hunt you down. The IRS is incredibly underfunded and a bit of shitshow so if you make a mistake you probably aren’t worth the money it would take to “bring you in”

The Jackson citizens are already very angry. Maybe they will burn the whole MF to the ground!! The Governor would shit himself.

Thats objectively a white supremacist dictatorship theres no ambiguity about it. Anyone with an ounce of moral sense would be demanding the forces responsible get mercilessly crushed by an armed intervention.

Thomas Hofeller was the mastermind behind REDMAP, the took used by Republican dirty-tricksters to redraw state electoral maps after the 2010 census in order to deliver state and federal legislative seats to Republicans even when the majority of people voted Democrats.

Hofeller was a secretive sociopath and had long been estranged from his daughter, Stephanie, a self-described anarchist who only discovered her father had died in 2018 when she read the obit pages of the New York Times. When Stephanie recovered her father’s possessions from his home, she came into possession of files detailing the REDMAP plans, files of the sort that he had long exhorted his co-conspirators not to create or retain.

Stephanie turned some of her father’s files over to the government watchdog Common Cause for use in a lawsuit over North Carolina’s redistricting; thanks to the frank admission of racially motivated voter suppression in Thomas’s files, the court found that NC’s redistricting was illegal.

Now, Stephanie has licensed all her father’s files under an unspecified Creative Commons license and dumped them on Google Drive for anyone to use, exhorting others to “download and distribute this material, at will. It’s yours (be nice).”

World's Wealthiest May Actually Be Less Intelligent Than Those Who Don't Earn As Much

animeengineer:

mindblowingscience:

Researchers of the study argue that this “plateauing of cognitive ability” amongst the biggest earners shows that at the very top pay scales, the resources available due to someone’s family background and lucky breaks in careers carry more weight than overall intelligence.

A team of researchers from Linköping University in Sweden, the European University Institute in Italy, and the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands say that better cognitive ability plays more of a role further down the pay scale.

“We find that the relationship between ability and wage is strong overall, yet above €60,000 (US$64,407) per year ability plateaus at a modest level of +1 standard deviation,” write the researchers in their published paper.

“The top 1 percent even score slightly worse on cognitive ability than those in the income strata right below them.”

This is based on data from 59,387 Swedish men who completed a military conscription test aged 18 or 19. While this limits the findings in terms of nationality and gender, it still provides a relatively large sample across a variety of pay levels and occupations.

IMHO part of this is that things get less competitive at that level. You don’t have to push yourself as hard, and your peers aren’t as backstabby. You sit on each others’ boards, making sure you stay in power as your respective CEOs, come what may. Your biggest enemy is not each other, but the government and the lower classes. And it’s easy to socialize your failures.

Anyway, it’s why I don’t like it when my friends say they’re not smart and thus can’t succeed; imho their “lack” of success is just that they’re playing the game at a higher difficulty level, one the wealthy and powerful could help mitigate (like they do for each other) but choose not to.
