Chat, is it considered “abusive roommate behavior” to release a raccoon into the living space after you have asked your roommate for months to please clean up their messes (they do not pay any of the mortgage)
For context, when I used to live alone I would do something called “Princess Time” where I would do an initial sweep (to remove any significant hazards) and then I would release a raccoon into the living area and clean. This helped because I would 1) feel like a princess and 2) the raccoon would bring attention to things my ADHD brain had decided to ignore and I’d quickly clean that stuff up.
So like, if I’m expected to clean the house now, I will be doing it in the way that is most effective for me. And anything that has not been cleaned up after months of having sit-down talks and sending reminders and being promised things will change, might be deemed “trash” by the trash panda and thrown away.
We haven’t done since we moved into the house, because I didn’t want to cause my roommate or their cats destress or have their things destroyed by a raccoon
I am a raccoon biologist and one of the few people in the state allowed to take in captive bred raccoons that had been possessed illegally. The raccoon in the photos is Moonshine, but she is currently at the animal sanctuary where I work as I had been quarantining multiple new intakes from an abuse case. I still have two males (Rum Tum Tugger and Electra) left in my home enclosure as we are getting them neutered and then hopefully sending them to an AZA accredited zoo.
I wanna make things very clear that underneath all the whimsy, I am a trained professional.
A raccoon named Rum Tum Tugger is just . . . you UNDERSTAND the character of Rum Tum Tugger.
feminism never taught me to hate men but it did help me realize that i shouldn’t prioritize them over women & it turns out that alot of men consider that to be hatred lmao.
So if you were in a room with two prisoners; a man and a woman, you’d never met, and the gender neutral soldier with the big gun told you to kill one of them, you’d automatically shoot the man?
tag yourselves I’m the gender neutral soldier with the big gun
im the completely off the wall reaction to a fairly mundane post
Your soldier with a big gun looks gnc af
another graveyard banger
okay but if you ever see a male creative who had a string of great work and then everything else he did was dogshit, go to the "personal life" part of his wikipedia and look at his relationships. you'll either find a major tragedy he didn't recover from (completely understandable) or, more likely, there was a woman in his life doing uncredited shit editing his stuff or contributing generally and she's not there anymore.
I told a friend about this phenomenon in literature and he called me weeks later like, I remembered what you said about women doing uncredited work when tim burton came up. he made a string of bangers then everything else just was nowhere near as good. the timeline matches perfectly to when he was with this german visual artist (lena gieseke). he's done some good work in collaboration, but if things were dug into I suspect we would find she did a lot more than people realise.
so yeah whenever you look around like wow women didn't work in history, or, women aren't auteurs, or, there just aren't as many great female writers - societal reasons for that aside, half the time they absolutely did.
a cosplay photo so old it was taken on actual film (which explains the streaks from my scanner) and the con we were at doesn’t even exist anymore. it was around 13 years ago actually now that I think about it.
i have been looking for this picture for YEARS and it’s finally back on my dash….wow
evil
People really hate thinking huh
Illiteracy is becoming rampant. Reminds me of the fact that a lot of children aren't taught how to sound out letters and are instead taught whole words from the beginning. They memorize it like it's a hieroglyphic instead of learning how to actually read and then picking up more advanced tricks on top of that foundational skill.
- George Orwell, 1984
The example in that screenshot is also just. Worse. Like, let's do a comparison here, and bearing in mind that I have not read Gatsby:
And the 1984 quote above is worth pointing out as well, not necessarily for the Newspeak comparison (Newspeak is an in-universe modified English deliberately constructed to restrict the articulation of ideas, a good IRL comparison would be censoring discussion of/references to LGBT+ topics, whereas with this BS it's hard to say whether the continued erosion of literacy is the secret true goal of this or just a side effect)
But because it's another example of how word choice matters and helps make a point. Notice how, when explaining the supposed benefits of Newspeak, the speaker barely uses Newspeak at all? And how this entire quote would become cumbersome and unwieldy if "translated" into Newspeak and probably wouldn't get all of its ideas across the same way? Notice, in other words, how the architects of Newspeak don't use it themselves and using Newspeak would make it impossible to properly describe it?
I feel like pirating media that isn’t sold or offered anywhere legally anymore shouldn’t be called piracy. Girl thats archaeology

For context: for the past couple of years, there were persistent talks that at least one of these Turkic states would recognize the "TRNC" as a formal state, thus de facto AND de jure recognising the partition of the island and the legalization of Turkish Invasionism and expansionism. However, they chose to go an entirely different direction and now recognize the Republic of Cyprus - the sole LEGAL entity / state in the island. This reverses Turkey's efforts to make the "TRNC" a formally acknowledged state, since it had been counting on these countries as the first supporters.
Turkey, however, which is very proud to talk about a "North" and a "South" Cyprus, doesn't acknowledge the Republic of Cyprus formally as a state, hence why there are no RoC embassy and consulates in Turkey. At the same time, Turkish Cyrpriots and Turkish settlers in the North enjoy the benefits alloted to them by the RoC as a means of rapprochement, I.e. RoC passports, electricity and water supplies, and the right to wander into the non-occupied areas without issues. Even the children born to a Turkish Cypriot and a Turkish OUTSIDE of Cyprus are legally able to get an RoC passport and nationality!
This development is no good news for Turkey, but excellent news for us, esp. With the Turkey/Israel relations in hot water and Trump openly siding with Israel for Syria.
Why Apollo was so popular in Ancient Greece? He had a lot of temples and myths with him as protagonist, well, antagonist actually, but that's my point, he is the most evilest fucking dude in Ancient Greece, even the others gods themselves were terrified when he entered in Homeric Hymn, he was vegy dark an cruel, why people loved him back then? Why he was one of the major gods (the Olympians) if he was a shit? Did ancient greeks read his myths?
Oh baby... How can you have such a strong opinion on Apollo and our ancients' religion when you obviously lack understanding of Greek myths? Can we please start with some common sense here?
I'm... trying not to be rude here, and feel free to send another, clarifying ask. But I cannot seriously reply to this specific ask.
A masterpiece 😂
I’ve been listening to the people in the apartment below me have arguments for two years now and I still can’t figure out what language they’re speaking. The best I can narrow it down is like if Portuguese and Hebrew had a baby. Is that a common pidgin combination
I just listened to a clip of this and jesus christ you fucking got it. there are like 3500 people in the whole united states who speak this and two of them are in a very fraught marriage four feet below me
cleared so hard

One of the interesting things about "dressing hetero" is that many outfits coded as "hetero" today were "metrosexual" 20 years go (aka Bezos in tight polos and slim jeans). This demonstrates how codes shift. But more importantly, being an alpha is apparently moving with the crowd
another retweet by @/dieworkwear:
"Dressing hetero" is often about never having any sense of cultural history or independent sense of taste. It's simply moving with the crowd so you don't stick out because you're afraid of being bullied for being different, like the fear that lingers in high school locker rooms
