The Australian Digital Health Agency has awarded Accenture Australia a three-year contract to provide application support and maintenance services for My Health Record and other digital health infrastructure. Health New Zealand has officially opened the new Dunedin Hospital outpatient building today, designed as a digitally enabled healthcare facility. The building includes comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage, self-service patient check-in kiosks, digital wayfinding, electronic referrals and bookings, electronic prescribing, patient queue management systems and improved shared electronic records. A new Australian digital health standards body has launched with the goal of helping health services assess the safety and quality of AI and other technologies that are not regulated as medical devices. The Digital Health Standards Council of Australasia (DHSCA) began operations this week - aiming to provide services for technology vendors, clinicians, boards, executives and health service organisations. The clinically-led organisation will focus on helping health services strengthen their governance of digital health and AI technologies, as well as independently assessing products that fall below the Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) threshold. DHSCA has been established to serve Australasia healthcare services, with initial operations focused in Australia. Clinician use of My Health Record has continued to grow strongly following the announcement of Share by Default in May 2023, according to the Australian Digital Health Agency. The Agency noted views of diagnostic imaging reports had increased by 866 per cent and pathology reports by 642 per cent, as of 2 August 2026. Agency CEO Amanda Cattermole PSM Cattermole said strong growth in use was welcome, but also acknowledged access needed to work better for clinicians during busy consultations. https://lnkd.in/eX72GtmS

Following the announcement of a new digital economy agreement signed between Vietnam and Australia earlier this month, an Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) spokesperson told Pulse+IT that opportunities for Australian digital health and health technology companies included supporting the development of national health data standards and data repositories to improve information sharing across Vietnam’s healthcare sector. Austrade also identified strong demand for more advanced AI-assisted diagnostics and clinical decision support, including Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) capable of automated imaging analysis and providing real-time support to clinicians. https://lnkd.in/eDi6SMic

A new framework aims to provide a consistent way of measuring the quality of care delivered by general practice, with its developers pointing to potential use in quality improvement and future funding models. Australian health services are deploying AI systems that are largely unable to remove the influence of patient data once it has been used to train them, according to researchers from the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML). AIML researchers Dr Anthony Porter and Associate Professor Dr Emily Kirkpatrick say 'machine unlearning' - the ability to modify an AI model so it behaves as though specified data had never been used in its training - is emerging as a significant gap in clinical AI governance. https://lnkd.in/e5wHCzz5
