  • With more BESS projects entering the market, battery revenues in the NEM are getting harder to predict. Spot spreads were depressed through the first half of 2026 and scrutiny on investment decisions is rising. It has therefore become more important than ever to develop a compelling route-to-market strategy. The right offtake structures, combined with high-quality trading, asset management and optimisation capabilities, build a bankable business case and support long-term return potential. Join Alan Rai, Executive Director at CORE Markets, and Henry Swisher, Director of Market Strategy at OptiGrid, for a free one-hour live webinar to explore how you can make a strong business case for new BESS projects with the right offtake structures and trading optimisation capabilities. • AMPYR Australia has selected OptiGrid to optimise the batteries within its portfolio in the National Electricity Market. The decision followed a detailed comparison on the performance of OptiBidder against other optimisation platforms. Jialin Shen, Energy Solutions Director at AMPYR said, “To achieve AMPYR’s goals, we need partners that can offer innovative solutions to meet our financial and technology needs. OptiGrid worked closely with us to demonstrate that OptiBidder would deliver the best revenue performance for our growing battery portfolio.” We're excited to be supporting the growth of AMPYR's battery portfolio in the NEM. Using OptiBidder's proprietary AI-powered forecasting, optimisation and bidding algorithms, AMPYR will be able to meet its offtake contract commitments while accessing merchant opportunities including energy arbitrage and FCAS. #BESS #EnergyStorage #NEM

We're hiring our Business Development Lead at OptiGrid. Over the past three years, we've gone from desktop research models to optimising battery portfolios across the NEM, from sub-5 MW hybrids through to utility-scale scheduled assets. We've built a strong customer base and are now ready for the next stage of growth. Now, we're looking for someone to help build the commercial engine to match the platform we've built. As our Business Development Lead, you'll own the end-to-end sales process, work closely with Henry and me, and play a key role in shaping how we grow from here. If you know energy markets well, have a strong network across the NEM, and enjoy building relationships and solving problems, we'd love to hear from you. If you'd like to have a confidential chat before applying, feel free to reach out to me or Henry. And if someone comes to mind, I'd really appreciate it if you could share this post or tag them below.

  • OptiGrid is heading to the Australian Clean Energy Summit next week. Sahand and Henry will be at ICC Sydney on 28-29 July. If you're developing, owning or operating battery storage systems, from sub-5 MW assets to utility-scale Scheduled BESS, we're keen to discuss what's happening in the market. Things are moving quickly, with evolving offtake structures, new approaches to managing risk without giving away the upside, and continued innovation in battery trading across the NEM. If you're at the Summit, come and say hello - or send us a message to arrange a time to catch up. #ACES2026 #BESS #NEM

  • Congratulations to Lunio Energy on the successful commissioning of its first battery project, the 20MWh Strathalbyn BESS in South Australia, optimised by our OptiBidder platform. We're excited to see two South Australian companies come together to help build a smarter, more resilient electricity grid across our state. OptiBidder enables the Strathalbyn battery to respond intelligently to market signals by optimising charge and discharge decisions, submitting bids across the Contingency FCAS markets, and capturing value from price volatility. Projects like Strathalbyn are becoming an increasingly important part of the electricity system, providing flexibility when the grid needs it most while making better use of renewable generation. We're proud to partner with Lunio and it's been great to see their first battery already performing strongly during the recent SA price cap events. #BESS #Optimisation #EnergyStorage #NEM

  • Decisions look obvious after the event. They rarely are in real time!   South Australia's recent $20,300/MWh price cap events highlighted the challenges of battery optimisation in an increasingly dynamic market, where forecasting uncertainty and state of charge management can materially shape outcomes.   Battery trading outcomes are often determined well before prices reach the cap, with forecast uncertainty, bidding strategy and state of charge management all shaping outcomes during extreme market conditions.   OptiGrid CEO Sahand Karimi spoke with Energy-Storage.news about the trade-offs that define battery trading under volatile conditions, and what battery fleet behaviour reveals. Find out more in the Energy Storage News article - link in the comments below.

  • How the SA price cap events changed the behaviour of the battery fleet Following the price cap events on Sunday, batteries collectively preserved more energy throughout the evening peak, leaving significantly more flexible capacity available should scarcity pricing return. The chart below shows how the dispatch behaviour of eight SA batteries changed over the three-day period spanning the price cap events. As battery penetration continues to increase, these fleet-wide interactions will become increasingly important. Successful battery trading optimisation will become more about managing uncertainty around how the broader battery fleet is likely to behave, not just reacting to hindsight. Reach out to Henry Swisher for insights on how these market dynamics could impact your battery or portfolio in other NEM regions.
