Apate.ai has raised A$11.4M to flip the script on scammers. We're thrilled to be doubling down on our investment as they expand into the US and UK. Dali Kaafar, Brad Joffe and Pete Eckermann have built an autonomous counter-scam intelligence platform used by telcos, banks and governments. Its AI agents engage scammers live across voice, SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram and email. Every conversation does two things at once: it burns the scammer's time, and it collects real-time intelligence on how they operate. To date those agents have now spent the equivalent of 17 years in conversation with scammers and helped avoid more than A$33M in losses. We first invested in Apate's seed round in 2025, and we're glad to be backing them again. Four billion dollars in fraudulent loans is suspected to be sitting on the books of Australia's biggest banks. Behind a lot of it are template farms: businesses selling editable documents built to pass as the real thing, from tax returns to business activity statements. Sean Quagliani, CEO of Fortiro, told the AFR there are hundreds of them operating. They vanish and reappear under new names, they are usually offshore, and increasingly the document production is automated. Fraud detection platform Fortiro, processes tens of millions of documents for banks and non-bank lenders. In the last six months the team has stopped hundreds of fraudulent documents tied to template farms and flagged thousands more.
