Reddit will require you to log in eventually, CEO confirms

Actually, one benefit of being logged in to Ars is if you're not ad ad blocker or subscriber we serve a slightly better ad experience to our logged in users. Just because we can, nothing nefarious about it, or because we're doing extra tracking or something wack.

I don't think it's an unpopular opinion, it just doesn't work as well anymore as you noted. I can tell you this, from the stuff I hear, don't rely on the Ars comments to judge how reddit is doing. At one point you could read comments here and think it was a graveyard, but I happen to know they...

Dartmouth’s provost warned us about AI cheating—but his own AI use cost him his job

This a a good summary of the nuances and pressures and issues. I think we're way past the point where it's credible to claim it's not useful. I might not use it, but I definitely could if I caved. I just don't think the benefits outweigh the harms. And nobody has figured out how to solve that.

Dartmouth’s provost warned us about AI cheating—but his own AI use cost him his job

Nate did a story recently on Hank Green's AI use: https://arstechnica.com/ai/2026/08/hank-green-found-the-ai-problem-that-youtube-labels-cant-catch/ Hank is about as humanistic as they come really, and yet he admitted that the addictive nature had him fall into some traps. I think those...

So You can't delete your account here?

I think you're both not wrong, wholly understand your point here, but also I think you need to take a little ownership of your own choices. I mean, just for instance, I don't use Google as a search engine anymore. You don't have to let them be the only option. I moved to Kagi and I'm much...

Ford builds bidrectional charging into its $30k electric truck

The wheels were just a way to match the sizes roughly between them as a shared reference point, only reason they mattered for this comparison.

This won't be entirely accurate, the angles aren't quite the same, and who knows what's under the camo, but here's a rough comparison to a Maverick with 19" wheels:

Shout out to the one person who keeps telling everyone exactly why they got banned from reddit, at least they're willing to own their opinion, even if it was threatening to hang people. Everyone else? Conveniently vague! :judge:

The new perpetual 3D Printing Thread

lol that too, but one thing I've been curious about printing that takes a decent amount of filament is trying some of these 3D printed speaker enclosures people are doing.

My two cents on the outrage side discussion: If you're not angry you're not paying attention. If I could change anything about how people express that anger it would be to simply be a little more selective about it. It feels more than reasonable to me in a story about reddit making their...

The new perpetual 3D Printing Thread

When I have a fair amount of printing to do I just buy 10 rolls of filament from Bambu on their refill, no spool system. Ends up a little under $10/kg that way.

The new perpetual 3D Printing Thread

I'm not in the market at the moment because home repairs are killing any toy budget, so I'm content to sit back and just watch. I was thinking 9 toolheads sounded ridiculous, but then I saw this on YouTube this morning: If they're solving printing with multiple nozzle sizes at the same time...

I like the idea of federating, and owning our own spaces, I really do. But user hostility just feels baked into too much of it. Maybe that's the point, I think there's an element there that likes being hardcore, exclusive, and gatekeeping through it. And that's totally fine, but I don't find it...

I appreciate it, but to be real, I don't miss being on Bluesky. Having social out of my life has been an improvement. It kinda sucks, I made a lot of friends on OG Twitter, and I think I gave back a fair amount to the communities I was a part of. I posted a fair amount on social media that I...
