Like Mand’alor Din Djarin who is completely politically incompetent is very funny and good but what about Mand’alor Din Djarin who just comes out of nowhere and absolutely slaughters (metaphorical) these career politicians across the negotiating table bc he has 20 years of experience cutting contracts with the worst and most unbearable people in the galaxy. And he had to figure out ways to say I Am Not Fucking Doing That without ever technically breaking his code of honor by violating his contract or whatever.

okay, so i've mentioned before how boba isn't above using wordplay/intentionally ambiguous wording/verbal loopholes to get out of rules or agreements he doesn't like while maintaining a front of ~*being true to his word*~. i believe the phrase i used was, "like some fucked up fae creature."

HOWEVER, after a review of additional expanded universe materials, i have come to the delighted realization that he has truly been doing this shit non-stop since he was a child. it's literally like,

"dad says i'm supposed to feed these feeder mice to this eel while he's gone, but TECHNICALLY, the words he used were, 'we'll be back when these are gone,' which doesn't necessarily mean dead. ALSO he's said that "patterns are traps," and killing a mouse each day would be a pattern, so if i let some of them go instead, then TECHNICALLY, i'm just following his advice :)" and "dad said i need to be in this apartment when he gets back, which TECHNICALLY means he said i could sneak out as long as i'm fast enough to get back before he does :)"

which leads to

"jabba said he wants me to destroy every last member of this smuggling ring despite the fact that the majority of them are enslaved children but i only promised to 'deal with' them, so if i kill their master and send them away, i've still technically destroyed the entire gang and 'dealt with' the members :)"

which leads to

"the hutts are only paying me to kill this dude and deliver them a grisly video of his death, but they didn't say i couldn't do a bunch of extra stuff like torch his merchandise afterwards, just that i wouldn't be paid for it :)"

which leads to

"it would technically be a breach of code for me to kill these guys unrelated to an active bounty, even though i really want to and it would be necessary to save the life of a third party, but oh would you look at that, said third party happened to find three credits in his pocket, and as long as i verbally agree to said fee, this is now an ongoing bounty, and i can kill with impunity :D"

which leads to

"based on your promise, i hereby verbally agree to backstab my entire galaxy and help deliver it to the yuuzhan vong for purging and enslavement (but since i know your promise is a lie, my promise "based on" it is also a lie and i'm actually going to secretly go behind your back and do the opposite :)"

basically, if you're gonna hire boba fett for something specific, you better have outlined at MINIMUM a 12-page document outlining exactly what he can and cannot do, or he WILL just fuck off and do whatever the hell he wants

BREAKING UPDATE ON THE PLUMOCALYPSE!!!

When I got home the neighbor kids were hanging around the parking lot as they usually do. I saw an adult making the rounds and popped out of my car hoping to snag her and ask if she’d like plums. I didn’t see her when I got out. But I saw a little girl and I said, “Is that your mom walking around?”

No, I was informed.

“Well can you ask your mom if she wants plums?”

She ran off. I looked over and saw two slightly older girls lounging. “Do you want plums?” I called.

Yes.

I grabbed my enormous box of plums and brought it outside. All three girls were waiting and the first kid said, “She’ll take them.”

I told them I had been given 106 plums. They were suitably impressed. I held out the box to let them pick out plums but the first girl confidently took the box. “You don’t have to take them all if you don’t want…” I offered dubiously.

“We want them.”

So I handed her the whole damn box, at this point somewhere close to 87 plums. And just like that, I was free. Her mom might be upset at receiving 87 plums or maybe her daughter gauged correctly that they could actually use them but either way. I am blissfully free.

Something something the Jedi have seemingly left the Galaxy millennia ago and yet there’s still statues of them dotting planets, their placing forming patterns only realized by crazy conspiracy theorists who are sure that the Jedi are still there, that the Force hasn’t abandoned them all. The Jedi will answer your call for help.

The first time Fox set foot into the plaza he nearly froze, got nearly choked up by the subtle pressure waves starting just under his throat and lifting his fingertips.

“Magnificent, isn’t it,” Senator Organa said next to him, eyes upwards and roaming across dozens of statues on the pillared walls surrounding them in two massive half circles. “This is the oldest part of Coruscant, Commanders.”

Fox could see Cody switching on internal comms with a hidden move, his visor fixed on one of the statues. “Did you feel that?”

Signing a quick affirmative, he scanned the plaza more thoroughly. “Takes up a lot of real estate.”

Senator Organa chuckled, eyes full of real mirth with a deep pride and satisfaction Fox didn’t know how to classify. “They do. And yet no one in history has been able to move them or tear them down. They’re the planet’s—“

“Protectors,” Cody said and Fox side-eyed him with maximum intensity. His batch mate was still looking at that one statue. Humanoid, flowing clothes caught in movement or wind, one arm stretched out, the other holding up a sword above the head. Blank stone eyes focused on an unseen danger. “They are— were protectors, weren’t they, Sir?”

Organa nodded. “Eons ago. Although,” he paused, mustering them with the amusement turning into a careful mask, “legends say they can be called when the Galaxy is at greatest risk. You call to them, they will answer.”

The more he looked at the statues, the more uncomfortably safe feeling Fox got. “Their voicemail must be full or we wouldn’t be here,” he drawled into comms, earning an unimpressed tipped bucket from Wolffe.

“We are ready, Senator,” Cody, predictable poster commander that he was, said firmly, finally finding time from ogling the statue. “We will protect the Galaxy and its peoples.”

Organa inclined his head. “I apologize again for Chancellor Palpatines’ absence. On his and the Galaxy’s behalf, I thank you for your service.”

“Anyone else feeling watched,” Bly piped up once Organa took his leave.

Fox held up his hand, getting a look from Cody and Wolffe for his troubles. “What. He asked.”

Huh. I think I might’ve potentially found a way to make KT’s “Mandalorians don’t have gender roles” and “Mandalorian wives stay at home and raise the children while their husbands go off to war and/or teach the kids how to fight” mesh?

Early interactions between the Republic and Mandalorians had the Republic representatives poorly defining gender, and the Mandalorians coming away from the conversation with “yup okay, housemaking is the wife’s job and earning money and fighting is the husband’s job,” then applying the Basic labels of “wife” and “husband” to the people who did those things, regardless of actual gender (or even marital status, if you want to get spicy). I haven’t fully thought out what the implications of that all being true would be, but I think it would have potential to make those two things make sense together?

Republic values bleeding over into Mando ones would certainly make sense since the Republic occupied them for so long. But this is kind of how it’s already set up!

Enlightened Coruscant society would have tutted at the traditionalist view that the females of the household were valued for their cooking skills, but Jusik was getting used to a subtler Mando take on that. The whole clan-even if Jusik couldn't define it, he knew the feeling of clan —was a fighting unit. Those who weren't on the front line as teeth were the essential tail, and many happened to be female. Sometimes women fought alongside the men, as Bralor did, and sometimes they didn't. But those who didn't still had a job to do-keeping warriors fed and supplied, and the base or homestead defended. One couldn't operate without the other. And at this moment of crisis for the Skirata clan, the females had taken over and made sure that the front line was fed and rested. There was no weeping into shimmersilk handkerchiefs and waiting by the door. There was just an efficient, robust logistics operation that would still be there when the Nine Hells of Corellia were dust.ALT
He could see the Mando soldiers standing around in the camp, watch-ing. They all wore armor. Even their women were tough soldiers, and it wasn't always easy to tell who was under that armor, male or female- or even if they were human.ALT

The ‘homemaking’ role is not exclusive to women. In Legacy of the Force, Goran Beviin usually does the mercenary work while his husband Medrit Vasur stays home and takes care of their farm & family.

Beviin had enough credits in his pocket already to see him and Medrit through the coming year. If Udelen had more work to offer in the weeks to come, there was plenty to go around for Briika and Dinua.ALT

And Beviin & Vasur’s daughter, Dinua, takes turns with her husband in fulfilling the ‘provider’ role:

"She's a good girl," Beviin said. "Just a bit irritable now that Jintar's away fighting. She's not one for staying at home. But the little ones are too young for both parents to be away." So some had already taken mercenary work. Fett didn't think Bevin's farm was doing that badly, but maybe Jintar was too proud to accept his father-in-law's support. "But you and Medrit are good with kids." "Yeah, but this way, one parent stays alive..." That was the harsh reality Fett had grown up with. It bred hard people.ALT
