Anxiety Cat

This started off as a meme blog (still submit funny memes please and make the people laugh), at the moment though it's more of an anxiety sufferer haven, or something of the like. I would hope that in an anxious moment you could scroll down this page and find something that helps you.

I get a lot of messages, so please don't expect me to reply to yours, although I might. If you want an answer your best bet is to message me off anon.

My name is Stephanie and I have suffered anxiety most of my life. I've been consciously working on it for 5 years now. My real life practice is the only qualification I have to offer advice with. I believe that the best way of managing your anxiety is to love yourself, so I'm always preachin' dat shit.

If you struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, or just plain feeling like a failure, I have a mantra for you that’s been really helping me out lately:

Just show up.

I used to skip class because the whole thing was so overwhelming: I had to get dressed in something clean even though I never had the energy to do laundry, walk to school, sit in class for up to three hours, plus pay attention, take notes, and participate in discussion. In reality, I was being a perfectionist, and life would have been a lot easier for me if I had Just Shown Up. By staying home because of my depression and anxiety, I wasn’t giving myself the chance to do any of that. I was such a perfectionist that being a “bad” or average student was unthinkable, so I stopped being a student at all.

If you’re having trouble getting something done, Just Show Up. You don’t have to be employee of the month. You don’t have to be valedictorian. Just Show Up.

ime it also helps to be like “you dont have to stay the whole time, you just have to go” bc most of the time once youre there it’s fine. a lot of things are like that, like… you dont have to finish the dishes, just start them. a lot of the time once you start a task it’s easier to finish than to stop, especially if you can trick yourself like “after five more minutes if i still feel bad i’ll go home” or “after washing two more dishes i can stop for today”

even if you don’t finish the task, you started it, and by completing part of it you lessened your future workload and ALSO taught your brain that things may not be as daunting as they seem

This is wisdom! Peace!

you know what years of therapy taught me - Redefine success

so what if no one else gets how the things you define as successes are victories because you have to

so you got to work - success

you used public transport - success

you went to the supermarket instead of ordering online and didn’t just buy things you dind’t want because you got scared - MASSIVE success

Redefine success, your body moved the goal posts, there is no shame in acknwoledging that

7 Tips for Happiness

onlinecounsellingcollege:

1. Have one or two really good friends – people you can trust and be honest and real with.

2. Build some adventure into your life. We all need to dream, and to stretch our boundaries.

3. Get rid of the excess stuff in your life – the people and the clutter that take up too much space.

4. Try to find some kind of balance between super-busy-ness and then feeling bored, as you’ve nothing much to do.

5. Give into temptation every once in a while, otherwise you’ll feel too cramped and constrained by your life.

6. Don’t just accept and put up with yourself. Really learn to love and appreciate yourself.

7. See each day as a brand new day – don’t look back at what happened, or the people, in your past.

SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE WHO STILL TRIES TO GET BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS AFTER DEPRESSION HIT THEM HARD. THERE ISN’T ENOUGH RECOGNITION FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THAT THEY’RE GOING TO LOSE INTEREST AND MOTIVATION AGAIN BUT PUSH THEMSELVES TO DO STUFF ANYWAYS. YOU ARE FIGHTING A DAILY BATTLE WITH YOUR OWN THOUGHTS AND YOU’RE STILL COMING OUT ON TOP, YOU’RE ALL BRAVE AS FUCK

1. Get into the habit of challenging your thinking – especially when it falls into the same old repeated, negative patterns.

2. Keep a thankfulness journal – and deliberately look for the good things in your life.

3. Spend time with people who can see your strengths, and who make you feel good about yourself.

4. Keep some photos or mementos that remind you of your passions – so theses can help inspire you to love your life again.

Hmm… I’ve got a lot of work ahead of me. Hope I’ll have the energy because I sure as hell don’t at this moment.
