i don’t know why but this has been a brainworm of mine ever since i grasped the concept of genderbends. genderbends are an imagining of what a character would look like if they were raised the opposite gender, right?
so I think that dean winchester, when genderbent (assuming john is still a dude) could go either of two ways.
the traditional fem: john winchester is an old fashioned kind of guy. firm beliefs in what is masculine, most likely, and I think that would translate over to femininity. dean, always one to do whatever might make his father love him would, in this au, take on a traditionally feminine role (long hair, skirts, dresses, the like) in order to gain john’s approval
the forgotten girl: dean still wants to take up a role that would make his father love him and, like in canon, he decides to basically copy him. he takes on a traditionally masculine role (short hair, jeans and such) in order to basically become the soldier his father wants. dean is still a girl, of course, but its buried so deeply that its almost forgotten at times.
either way, the thing that really makes a genderbend interesting to me is when the creator takes into account their environment and how it would influence their sense of gender and self (seeing as gender is a social construct). when genderbends are just character A with long hair or character B with boobs, it just isn’t as fun
