Mostly here to read but will reblog too I dunno man I just don’t want to get mistaken for a bot

Some women are conditioned to be fragile and weak, and to believe that it's a sin to outperform a man. Her feminism would involve allowing women to be strong.

Some women are expected to be strong at times when they can't. Her feminism would involve reassuring her that it's okay to not be strong.

Some neurodivergent people are raised to believe that they're too stupid to ever amount to anything. Their disability activism would involve reassuring them that they're capable.

Some neurodivergent people are raised to believe that they're smart and gifted, and are expected to live up to impossible standards. Their disability activism would involve allowing them to fail, make mistakes, be stupid, etc.

Some children are constantly reminded "you're the child, I'm the adult" in order to deny their autonomy. Their youth rights activism would involve treating them like an adult at times when they feel ready for it.

Some children are treated like adults in order to justify increased expectations or to downplay abuse against them. Their youth rights activism would involve allowing them to be a child.

There is no one-size-fits-all solution to oppression. Each individual person's experience is different. Whatever trauma is caused by their oppression, the activism should focus on undoing it.

For context: Ukrainians took to the streets in 2013 to oust pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych and restore 2004 amendments to their constitution that weakened presidential power over their parliament. They blocked up the streets of Kyiv with tires (as well as bricks and anything else they could get their hands on), building barriers that prevented the military from removing protestors.

This is one of those true, declassified government things that always sounds made up but one of the things Henry Kissinger did with his career was use the CIA to help turn small, prosperous socialist nations into fascist dictatorships just to keep those nations powerless and possibly to keep socialist systems *looking* doomed and futile to the American public, like maybe just to scare Americans out of demanding better infrastructure or universal income. Yes it sounds like an insane conspiracy theory a maniac would invent. It also happened multiple times and several generations of people around the world are still living in misery because of it.

Remember folks, the two types of conspiracy theory are "Things the CIA or FBI has admitted to doing" and "Antisemitism"

no, i meant that. maybe reblog a different post if you're only pretending to agree with this one?

im not letting you keep this in the tags

REMINDER: luigi mangione has been accused of killing the CEO, not convicted, and the evidence presented is extremely questionable. luigi mangione is NOT the claims adjuster until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt in a court of law, and the widespread presumption of his guilt makes it much more likely he will be falsely convicted.

Hey remember when people on this site were absolutely insane about asexuals saying they’re a Trojan horse to sneak in homophobic straight people into the lgbt community or whatever and now JKR is making the same lazy edgelord jokes about asexual people

wow it's almost like bigotry against one part of the queer community is often a gateway into other kinds of bigotry.....weird......

I'm so mad that arcane is actually good

It's supposed to be trashy shlock

Why is it so good

Because videogame adaptations are ALWAYS trashy shlock. They're always underdeveloped, overrated and generally not worth paying attention to, purely carried by brand recognition and memorable only for how bad they are. That's just how it is. Tale as old as time. A videogame adaptation being good is against the natural order of things. A *league of legends* adaptation being THIS good should be a sign that the end times are coming

I think the key is that most video game adaptations are adapting the story of the game, and video game stories are, at least partially, serving as vehicles for game-play. Even a game with a very compelling story often has room in the story where The Gameplay Happens. For example, I think Horizon Zero Dawn has a great story...but the story itself features lots of room for"And then Aloy wandered around the land fighting random robot dinosaurs". If you cut that OUT of the story as written, it wouldn't feel right. The wandering and robot dinosaur fights are a part of Aloy's story as written. BUT if you leave that in, there's a lot of narrative real estate taken up by random stuff. Like, it MIGHT work in a 20 episode cartoon where you can have the plot slowly build with lots of episodic storytelling, but. League of Legends has a story, but it is entirely independent of the gameplay. From what I can tell the story is "There's a COOL FANTASY WORLD with a lot of COOL CHARACTERS. Anyway, sometimes they take a break from their cool fantasy world lives because they've agreed to let some random wizards use them to settle disputes by making them be in League of Legends. Then they get teleported back home to continue their lives". It's like if you consumed the Count of Monte Cristo entirely through player bios for a weekend sports league where they agreed to not do any revenge or murder stuff. And then, from what i can tell, Arcane mostly discarded all the existing League lore except for names and some general vibes to tell the story they wanted to.

I know most people don't care about anything unless it has to do with the U.S. but can we please start talking about the Canadian election.

Please don't vote for Poilievre. He's basically the Canadian Trump and plans to put in place laws that harm trans youth, and lots of other shit.

Please vote istg this is the only way anything will get better. Poilievre has been kissing millionaires and billionaires asses. He'll make life even harder, and he loves Trump.

Reblogs are appreciated, especially if you aren't Canadian.

I was gonna put stuff in the tags but no actually:

Please don't put that man in office. Please vote, and not for him.

If you're thinking of not voting, let me say this: someone is going to win, and whoever it is will be making decisions in your name. You have the opportunity to have an effect on who that person is. Don't you want it to be someone who agrees with you, at least a little bit?

If that thought (or another) compels you but you don't know who to vote for, first of all, not Poilievre and the Conservatives (blue), as mentioned above. Second of all, let me put you onto votemate.org. You just put in your postal code and it will tell you what district you're in, and then you can view the candidates for your district. Many of the candidates have info up about themselves and their platform (some don't—it's a new project and this election was called fairly suddenly, but keep an eye out because more profiles will be added as we get closer to polling time). If you want to find out more about a candidate, now that you have the name you should be able to search them up and find further details about their party and platform.

Once you've done your research and made your decision, make a plan to vote.

  • Check if you're registered, get registered if necessary (I promise they do not make it difficult; go here, or you can do it in person when you go vote).
  • Pick a day. Advance polling is April 18-21, election day itself is April 28. Everyone is entitled to three consecutive hours to vote on election day. That means your boss has to give you time off if your working hours would otherwise prevent you from having three hours while polls are open. Other dates for certain special cases and a couple other options (vote on campus, armed forces, etc) can be found here. There's also info about voting by mail in there, if you need that.
  • Find out where your polling station is (purple box here. Note that it'll be a different place if you vote early, scroll down a little). Look at the hours. Think about when you'll go and how you'll get there.
  • Get your ID together. Any Canadian government-issued card (so any government in Canada, federal, provincial, or municipal) that has your name, photo, and current address will do. If you don't have one of those, no sweat, check here for other acceptable forms of ID. That's just the easiest one.
  • Carry out your plan when the time comes and vote!

I for one will be very proud of you.

Adding to the chorus, please vote. Check out smartvoting.ca as well, it will let you know not only who is in your riding but also what their chances are against the conservative nomination. In some ridings that will be the Liberal candidate, in others it will be the NDP. The main goal is to block a majority for the conservatives and block as much as we can right now for what they're trying to do.

Poilievre is not only kissing Trump's ring, he and his ilk are actively using project 2025 as their playbook. I know the stats look like he's lost a lot of favour, but that only sticks if we all go to the polls and act on it.

The world right now is terrifying, and I don't want it to get worse and Poilievre is objectively worse. Find a candidate who has a platform you're interested in and vote for them. Find an MPs email and yell at them every chance you get to do the things you need them to do.

Engagement in politics and civics is down everywhere. The widespread disenfranchisement by the billionaire class has been so effective that voter apathy is the reason we are eeking out such dismal numbers in the polls generally. I know it feels like a piece of paper won't make a difference, but honestly, it absolutely does make all the difference in the world.

I don't hate the conservative party, but this crew they have now has consumed so much of the billionaire Kool aid that they are speed running authoritarian thinking. The whole point of government is to push and pull with alternating ideas. Fiscal responsibility is important, but so are social programs and the arts.

Please become interested and invested not only in your community but in the people we vote to put in charge.

To all my fellow Canadians. Vote, vote, vote.

Even if you think that your 'vote doesn't matter'. Vote anyway. Don't think the polls you see right now are a guarantee. The only guarantee we'd get, is the announcement of the elected parties after the election. Nothing is definitive right now unless we vote.

Do not be complacent.

> sees complaints that a female character looks "too masculine" or "like an ugly lesbian"

> ask if we got an actual butch character or if shes just a normal looking woman that isnt wearing make up and a dress

> person is visibly confused, i start explaining the difference between actual butch presentation and dress and a woman simply dressing comfortably to avoid indecent exposure

> person laughs and says "she straight up looks like a guy, i can barely tell her apart from the actual men"

> google the character

> shes just a normal looking woman that isnt wearing make up and a dress

> sees complaints that a female character looks "too masculine" or "like an ugly lesbian"

> ask if we got an actual butch character or if shes just a black woman

> person is visibly confused, i start explaining the difference between actual butch presentation and dress and how black women are held to white standards of femininity and are often accused of looking like/being men because of white people applying these standards to them

> person laughs and says "she straight up looks like a guy, i can barely tell her apart from the actual men. why are you bringing race into this?"

> google the character

> shes just a black woman

A lot of fantasy goes with Tolkien explanation of fantasy racism being the result of ancestral grudge.

Then you got Dungeon Meshi which is like:

"Elves and Dwarves hate each other because their respective empires make up 2/3 of the imperial core and are stuck in a cold war as the planet runs out of uncolonized land to grab. Elves are able to live in pastoral paradise because they've horded most of the settings farm-able land and natural capital, displacing and mass murdering any natives in the process. Orcs and goblins are hostile to other races because there the primary targets of an ongoing slavery and genocide campaign. The dividing line between human and inhuman is arbitrarily assigned via a phrenological pseudo-science that quickly falls apart when questioned by anyone who wasn't indoctrinated into it since birth."

Im sorry but it is so funny how people outside of tumblr view us. Like why are the tiktokers treating tumblr like some professional ass website you need to do extensive prep before you begin posting on. And the follower farming advice is so fucking funny to me when this is the website where people actively hate getting new followers

Tumblr is the website where you ramble to yourself like a madman until someone decides they like you and put you into their pocket like a shiny rock. That's how you get followers

As a curator, all these people saying museum are expensive...the one I work at is $3 to enter. But there are also plenty of free museums in my area. If you are saying museums are expensive you need to open your eyes to the world of museums beyond big institutional ones. There are so many small, historical houses, historical parks, little art galleries, out there that are free or have small fees. There are also museums that have free or discounted days. There are museums that offer student discounts, senior discounts, military discounts, museums that offer free or discounts if you have SNAP benefits.

Almost all museum memberships have reciprocal benefits. It's a little more up front, but if you become a member at one museum (It's usually like $50 for a year) you get a membership card and there's usually a list of other museums that card will get you into for free.

Also you can always sign up to be a volunteer. Then you can look at the stuff all the time for free. I got my start 10 years ago as a volunteer, fell in love and made it my career.

also lots of public libraries keep a stock of free museum passes at the circulation desk for check out

Hey i’m a fashion design student so i have tons and tons of pdfs and docs with basic sewing techniques, pattern how-tos, and resources for fabric and trims. I’ve compiled it all into a shareable folder for anyone who wants to look into sewing and making their own clothing. I’ll be adding to this folder whenever i come across new resources

Updated just now with new hand sewing resources (mainly buttonholes) and textbook pdfs on fashion history, fashion illustration, and thinking through designs!

OP I owe you my life

OP you are the greatest person currently in my life. You beautiful, thoughtful creature.

Oh that's a tumbler or roller pigeon! They're bred to do this! It's believed that the original inclination to tumble in the air was a tactic to avoid being caught by flying predators, then this inclination was bred in favor of doing it more. Some breeds can also fly normally for hours as well, and the most sound breeds are those that can make safe landings still. There's whole shows and competitions around tumbler pigeons!

There's more unsound breeds of course as well, but this one clearly has good control of its flight and landing. Well done pigeon!
