I think I'm going to have a headache if I try and think about HOW DC is doing what they are doing. I don't even know what they're doing after reading this issue. They stressed it's not a reboot. So, what is this? Getting my headache now. I should stop thinking about continuity every time I read something now.

Geoff Johns has creative fatigue, and there seems to be a corporate issue with one Alan Moore.

I am digging the retro DC logo, though. So very 70's, man.

And if you thought the ending to this was wack, you should read what the Marbleheads are doing........!

 

[Spider-Man]

Loved this comic. While I am worried DC Comics will still fumble everything, this issue was so great. Having Wally be the narrator was a stroke of genius and really helps connect the reader to what's going on. The scene with him and Barry was really touching actually and pitch-perfect. The artwork here was gorgeous and the story was spot on. A bit disjointed from time to time, as it seemed like the comic was more focused on making moments happen than connecting it all smoothly, but it touched upon a lot of important things. I didn't find that reading Superman #52 or Justice League #50 really added anything so that editor's note could have easily been left out. But DC really delivered here. I love the Watchman twist and it's clear that Mr. Oz is Ozymandias which really has me interested to see how that plays out. All in all DC really hit it out of the park here and I am interested in what is coming next.

I know it's easy to be burned out and cynical about what DC Comics is doing here but the execution works so well here that I can't have but have hope. Despite some dark stuff in this issue there really does seem to be a touch of hope coming on the horizon. Maybe Johns is just that good of a writer but he has me optimistic about where things will be going from here. This issue really doesn't shy away from effectively putting the New 52 down, though I can see some fans being insulted that they basically made it an 'Age of Apocalyose'-type universe, but given how thin-skinned fans are nowadays and how they will cry foul over the tiniest thing, DC is right to plow ahead like this. I wouldn't call it a reboot as it seems like there's a plan to lead everything thing toward a singular goal over the next couple of years. I thought this was a really great issue that lived up to the hype and delivered on what seems to be some positive changes in tone and quo.

Is Rebirth (the new DC line and this one shot) just going to be the lead in/teaser for an upcoming Watchmen DC event? If that's what they are planning, I wish they just did as a stand alone Elseworlds story. Only because every time we get something like Rebirth (the line and this one shot), it's just to hint at future plans, build up to it, and before we know it we have the next mega event where promises of "things will never be the same" are made.

Watchmen DC would be interesting, and I would buy into it. I can only imagine the greatness and brilliance of the Rorschach and QUESTION mini series or one shot.

Now that Watchmen is somehow tied to the DC continuity, I wonder if this classic "just a dream" moment actually is now officially much more than "just a dream". That, is the Question.
